Ayissi Case: This Is What Professor Emmanuel Pondi Thinks

The case of sexual violence in which the perfect journalist Ayissi of Vision 4 television would be involved continues to make headlines.

In an interview with newspaper Le Jour in newsstands Friday, the vice-rector of the University of Yaounde I Jean Emmanuel Pondi returned on the subject of girls victims of harassment in Cameroon and the silence around the abuse they suffer.

According to the author of the book "Sexual harassment and deontology in academia", young girls who are victims of abuse or rape must take their courage and denounce their tormentors so that justice can be done.

The academic's reaction comes just days after a group of 10 lawyers filed a complaint against journalist Parfait Ayissi, accused of sexually abusing a 14-year-old high school student in Yaoundé.

For Emmanuel Pondi: "If the phenomenon is perpetuated, it is because there are guilty silences. From the victims first and from the stalkers then. These silences must be denounced. Most girls who are harassed choose not to talk about it, not to report. They choose silence as a strategy.

For me, it is catastrophic because you have to have the idea that there are people who can help, but are not able to do it as long as there is no denunciation.
