Chopper Crash Victim Identified

THE police have identified the person who died in a helicopter crash on Wednesday as 30-year-old Tobias Erastus. 

 He was a passenger in the helicopter that crashed in the mountains 15 kilometres east of Windhoek when it attempted to land where another helicopter crashed about two weeks ago.

The crew had gone to the scene to salvage valuables which fell out of the V5-HFW that belonged to Jannie Swart from the Dordabis area and was being piloted by Lambert Roux.

Roux died in the crash, whose cause was given as poor visibility.

Wednesday's crash involved an MD 500 helicopter co-owned by the owner of Ferreira's Nursery, Avelino Ferreira and Abe van der Merwe, who was the pilot.

Police spokesperson Kauna Shikwambi identified those who survived as Van der Merwe, Theunis Loots and Johannes Augustus. The three were admitted to the Lady Pohamba Private Hospital.

Tobias' brother Saskal Haufiku said the deceased was employed as an electrician by Professional Communications Systems.
